Kathy Weingarten
Kathy Weingarten, Ph.D., has been writing about illness, using
her own and others' first person accounts for over one decade. She
is currently working on a project using writing to assist families
in coping with the diagnosis of illness in children and adolescents.
She has written The
Mother's Voice: Strengthening Intimacy in Families which concerns,
among other topics, her experience with cancer, and she is co-editor
of Mothering Against the Odds: Diverse Voices of Contemporary
Mothers, a book of twelve essays about mothers who have resisted
demeaning and diminshing attributions of their mothering due to
circumstances such as their immigrant, racial, lesbian or adoptive
status. Kathy lives in the Boston area and spends time in a primitive
cabin in the north woods of Maine where she watches the habits of
loon and merganser families.
