The workshop provides intensive training on child and
adolescent posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The
presenters' interdisciplinary approach offers participants
medical and psychosocial models of assessment and intervention
for treating PTSD in children and adolescents. The presenters
explore the impact of trauma, looking both inside the
developing child and outside to family, community, and
social policy.
Goals and Objectives:
Participants in the course will:
1. Become familiar with clinical manifestations of trauma
exposure in children and adolescents.
2. Learn the elements of a comprehensive assessment
of traumatized children and adolescents.
3. Understand developmental requirements of talk and
no-talk based treatment, and the effects of trauma on
normal social, emotional, physical and cognitive functioning.
4. Become knowledgeable about key elements of psycho-pharmacological
treatment of posttraumatic symptoms in children and
adolescents.
5. Develop a focus on competence, creativity, commitment,
and connection to foster resilience, while decreasing
the traditional emphasis on problems and pathology.
